Periodontal Disease Treatment Options

For our patients with Gum Disease (Periodontal Disease) we may recommend a series of appointments for a thorough deep cleaning.

Upon each of these visits, our Hygienist will thoroughly clean not only the surface of your teeth, but also the roots of your teeth and deep down into any "perio pockets" that you cannot reach with your toothbrush and floss.  We may also recommend the use of our Laser to assist with disinfecting during your cleaning.

For most patients with Gum Disease frequent Periodontal Maintenance cleanings are recommended.  Typically, we recommended cleanings every 3 or 4 months.  Bacterial levels can build in 3-4 months to a point where they can cause bone loss, possibly leading to premature tooth loss and infection.  In severe cases, we may refer patients to a Specialist for further evaluation or we may also recommend a short or long term course of antibiotics.
